Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using ReadCraft (the "service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you're using ReadCraft on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

You must be at least 13 years old to use ReadCraft. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf.

2. The service

ReadCraft generates short Chinese reading passages tailored to a learner's vocabulary level, chosen scenario, and preferred style. The text is produced by a large language model (currently Anthropic's Claude) and returned with new vocabulary words flagged for highlighting and annotation in the reading interface.

The service is intended for personal language-learning use. We may add, change, or remove features at any time without notice.

3. Accounts & sign-in

Your first generated story does not require an account. Once you purchase a story pack, an account is created automatically tied to the email address used at checkout. We don't use passwords — sign-in is by single-use magic link sent to that email.

You are responsible for:

You may only use one account at a time. Don't share, sell, transfer or otherwise make your magic links or session cookies available to anyone else.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you've violated these rules.

5. AI-generated content

We work hard on the prompts and word-selection logic, but we cannot guarantee that any individual story is linguistically perfect, culturally appropriate, or factually accurate. If you spot an issue, please tell us so we can improve.

Don't rely on ReadCraft for examination preparation, professional translation, medical, legal, or other high-stakes decisions. Always verify important information with a qualified teacher or trusted reference.

6. Payments & credits

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, who acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy handles billing, sales tax, VAT, and any local payment obligations.

A purchase grants a fixed number of generation credits. The current price and credit pack size are shown on the checkout page before you pay. Each story you generate consumes one credit. Credits:

Prices and credit allocations may change. Changes won't affect credits you've already purchased.

7. Refunds

We want you to enjoy ReadCraft. If you're unhappy with your purchase, email us at [email protected] within 14 days of payment and we'll refund any unused credits. Refunds are processed via Lemon Squeezy and returned to the original payment method.

We may decline refunds where the majority of credits have already been used or where we suspect abuse of the refund policy.

8. Your content & stories

Stories generated for you on the service are stored in your library while your account is active. You're welcome to copy, study, print, and otherwise use them for your personal language learning.

You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display the stories you generate strictly to operate the service for you (for example, so we can show them back to you in your library and on the story page). We will not publish or share your individual library with anyone else.

We may use aggregated, anonymised information about generations (for example, popular topics or average story length) to improve the service.

9. Intellectual property

ReadCraft, including the brand, design, code, prompts, and accompanying materials, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any of those rights to you.

The underlying AI model is provided by a third-party model vendor and governed by their own terms. We cannot make claims of copyright over the raw text output of an AI model on your behalf — laws around AI-generated content vary by jurisdiction and are still evolving.

10. Service availability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.

We may need to pause, suspend, or take down the service for maintenance, upgrades, or for reasons outside our control (including upstream model provider outages).

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ReadCraft and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the service.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) USD $50.

Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

12. Termination

You may stop using ReadCraft at any time. You can request that we delete your account and stored stories by emailing us — see the Privacy Policy for details.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, use the service in a way that risks harm to us or other users, or if we are required to do so by law. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, governing law) will continue to apply.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify account holders by email. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of competent jurisdiction located in South Africa, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence requires otherwise.
